T

he « Landscape » decree requires the Faculties to draw up a list of expenses beyond the registration fee for each curriculum. The goal is to inform students as fully and as realistically as possible about the cost of the studies they wish to pursue before they enrol.

The estimated costs below* are directly related to learning activities. They are to be added to the registration fee and to the accommodation, transport and food expenditures documented on this page

Fees common to all students

The costs listed below often depend on the student’s personal situation and on their choices:

  • Purchase of a computer : between €700 and €1000
  • Purchase of a graphic calculator : about €100
  • Course notes and mandatory reference books : about €100 per year
  • Non-mandatory reference books : about €100 per year

The course notes and some of the main reference books used in our School of Engineering are sold at the best price by the Centrale des cours.

Reference books can also be consulted for free at the library or online.

(*) Which computer to choose?

Computer science :

There is no model specially recommended. It is not necessary to have a particularly powerful computer, any computer thta is fairly t recent (last 3 years) is perfectly suitable.

In terms of ergonomics, it is better to opt for a model that is light and easy to carry (less than 2 kg), with a screen that is not too big (15 inches max).

It is advisable to avoid Intel i3 processors, generally everything from i5 is correct.

The operating system used does not matter, it is always possible to use a virtual machine or a Docker container to run another system. Under these conditions, ideally, it is best to have as much RAM as possible.

The faculty also offers computer labs, but the vast majority of students prefer to work on their own laptops.

Engineers and Engineer in Architecture :

There is no model especially recommended. It is not necessary to have a particularly powerful computer, any computer that is fairly recent (last 3 years), with one of the three most common operating systems (Windows, MacOS, Linux) may be suitable for engineering studies.

A computer with 16GB of RAM is sufficient.

An Office Suite can be useful for writing reports but there is no specific software to install. The commercial (Microsoft Office suite or Mac suite) or free versions (LibreOffice or LaTeX for reports) are enough.

During their first year, students use :

  • the NX software for the Graphic Communication course. The University has licenses; projects are therefore to be carried out on the University's machines.
  • C compilers for the Introduction to Computer Science course.
  • the matlab software for the Introduction to Numerical Methods and Projects course.

Fees specific to students achieving their master's degree

  • Optional end of studies trip : depending on the student’s choices as far as destinations, accommodation etc. are concerned : about €700
  • Cost for the printing of the master thesis, if required by members of the jury : about €75

Fees specific to certain fields of studies
