Our mission

To be, in the service of the University, the region and its companies, and humanity in general, a globally competitive research and technological development center training future generations of actors in the development and responsible use of technologies.

This ambition is not universal in terms of the areas addressed, but aims to contribute to the issues under the following broad themes

Manufacturing and materials

How can new materials and new manufacturing processes be used to design and produce innovative products? What technologies can be used to produce everyday and specialized goods in an economical and sustainable way? 

Environment and natural resources

How to reconcile economic development and the environment? How to develop a sustainable use of natural resources? How to clean up and recondition industrial wastelands ? How to manage water resources in Wallonia and in the world? How to manage and recycle waste ?

Health

Which technologies can be used for medical diagnosis and therapeutic practice? How can we meet the challenges of an aging population?

Energy

How to meet the energy needs of our society? What are the energy sources of the future? How can we design efficient energy storage, transformation and transport processes? How to integrate new modes of decentralized energy production?

Space

Which technologies for the development of space systems (launchers, satellites, telecommunications, etc.) and the implementation of innovative services (GPS, observation and monitoring, warning systems, etc.)?

Transports

How can we solve the mobility problems of our cities? How can we develop new land, river, sea and air vehicles to transport people and goods while limiting energy consumption and environmental impacts? What infrastructures should be put in place?

Digital industry and society

Which technologies should be developed to integrate the digital revolution into companies and enable the implementation of new services for individuals and society? Which tools should be used to manage and exploit "big data"? Which methodologies should be used to provide decision support and risk prevention based on "big data"?

City and habitat

How can we rethink and develop our habitats, our infrastructures and our cities to take into account energy issues, the evolution of the family and working methods? How can we implement sustainable development in urban areas? How can we ensure their resilience in the face of natural or man-made risks?
