Permanent scientific position (Research Officer) within the "Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering" Research Unit of the University of Liège.

The ‘Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering’ Research Unit is looking for a Research Officer to manage its Thermodynamics Laboratory.

The research activities of the Thermodynamics Laboratory aim to develop innovative and efficient thermal systems in the fields of energy conversion, transport and storage, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R), combustion, automotive engineering and turbomachinery. These research activities include an important experimental component, which are complemented by the development of simulation models.

In parallel to these research activities, the Laboratory contributes significantly to teaching in the fields mentioned above. These teaching activities consist essentially in the organization of practical sessions aiming to illustrate aspects of numerous Bachelor’s and Master’s level courses and in the supervision of Final Year Projects.

The Laboratory features numerous experimental facilities used for research and teaching:

  • Various high-temperature heat sources for testing thermal machines (steam engines, Organic Rankine Cycle) and heat exchangers (hot air generator 500 kW/500°C, oil boiler 150 kW/300°C, internal combustion engine 1.6 l/750°C)
  • Two climatic chambers for testing heat pumps and air-conditioning systems
  • Two natural gas-powered test benches for heating and cogeneration systems
  • A test bench for automotive air conditioning components
  • A solar thermal panel far
  • Numerous air ducts for testing heat pumps and heat exchangers
  • Numerous test benches for refrigeration compressors
  • A compressed air installation comprising numerous air compressors and driers.
  • Several engine testbeds with combustion gas analysis
  • A roller bench
  • A turbomachinery laboratory
